Castlegregory Chronicles

The latest boards magazine is due to hit news stands any day now featuring the fourth, and penultimate episode of my column documenting our family’s relocation to Ireland.

There’s also a classic title picture to the piece, which I’ve inserted here. After the recent UKWA windsurfing competition that I judged here in County Kerry, the photographer decided that these three asses looked rather like myself and my honourable colleagues who make up the judging panel. A fair point indeed, but we’ve since been in some disagreement as to which one each of us is. Poor Donkeys is all I can say…

It’s not long until we leave Ireland now and I move my copywriting and content management business back to the UK. I’m contracted to spend a large part of the summer covering events and running live web casts for the PWA world tour (Professional Windsurfing Association Pro tour), and our plans are to return to Ireland in early 2008. The series in Boards mag, called ‘The Blogs from the Bogs’ has been well received, and I am tempted to pitch the idea of putting it online on an ongoing basis next year. Still it has been somewhat ironic having a Blog in print!

I’m lucky the freelance copywriting work I’m getting is not location dependant, and so the networks I have in gaining referrals from within the extreme sports, watersports and telecoms sectors are still strong, and the work is still rolling in.

Being a youth culture expert is something I had ever envisaged being a big money spinner, but it seems skills in writing to specialist youth and action sports audiences are highly sought after as large companies try harder to empathise with their end customers and their disposable income.
